Mary Lea Teichert, 1939 – 2024

The family of Mary Lea Teichert, 84, of Grand Junction will visit with family and friends March 14 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Honorary bearers will be Curtis Riley-Sellers, Kyle Riley, Joshua Jordan, Jerimiah Jordan, Kelsey Coffin and Steven Coffin. Following the visitation, the family will host refreshments at the Greenewood Community Center in Jefferson.

Mary Lea DeWitt Teichert was born April 11, 1939, in Perry, to Olive (Morris) and Thomas Franklin “Frank” DeWitt.  Mary’s siblings were Glenn, Leonard, Zella, Jesse, Jack, and Wendell (known as Junior).  Mary worked at a cafe in Perry.

Mary married Tom Vodenick in 1957.  They lived in Perry and became the parents of a son, Bart. Tom passed away when Bart was only 3 months old. Mary then met Terry Riley. They married in 1959, and Terry adopted Bart when he was 9 months old. Mary and Terry then had a daughter Terri in 1960, a daughter Connie in 1962, a son Richard in 1964, a daughter Candi in 1968, and a daughter Jessica in 1970. Mary and Terry divorced in 1980.

Mary then married Kenneth Teichert in 1983 and they lived in Jefferson, then later moved to Grand Junction. Mary worked at a day care in 1986, working there for six years.  She was employed at the Jefferson Manor for 19 years, retiring on Oct. 17, 2014.

Mary and Kenneth were on a bowling league for many years. Mary enjoyed camping with her family. She loved being with her dog, Baby Girl. Mary enjoyed watching game shows and old westerns. She liked getting out of the house to go shopping, and always wanted to try new restaurants.

Mary passed away March 11, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Frank DeWitt;  brothers Jack, Jessi, Wendell, and Leonard;  sister Zella; husbands Tom Vodenick, Terry Riley, and Kenneth Teichert; son, Bart Riley; and daughter Connie Morgan.

Mary is survived by her brother Glenn DeWitt of South Dakota; her children Terri Riley of Scranton, Richard Riley of Grand Junction, Candi (Nick) Kirk of Paton, and Jessica (Roger) Coffin of Jefferson, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
